Blankets and Rain
January 13, 2016
Darknessblanketseverything as the rain beats a staccatoscore on the skylights. Morning came very early this morning for me. Mother had a fitful night and then a problem that had to be cleaned up at 4 am. She was able to go back to sleep but I was not. So I sit looking out into the inky darkness thinking of things I need to do and pondering how to do them. The fire is a welcome friend as it puts out its heat and joyful light. More time is taken with Mother as she progresses on her journey and so I am left with less time for other things. So far it is still manageable. I have noticed the Parkinson's is causing a tremor in her foot now. Neither the hand or foot is much of a problem and yet it is becoming more pronounced, It is hard for her to hold a spoon or even know how to use it. Liquids are easier for her to take and other foods must be very soft or else they are discarded. She seems to forget sometimes how to eat and asks me how she is supposed to eat whatever it is. I have become a good coach for what and how to do meals. When she is fully awake she gets around well and when she is sleepy or has been asleep she loses the memory how to take care of herself. Her body continues to be strong and her health for the most part very good. Her mind is haunted by things real and imagined and she now reads walls, sweaters and other things and finds messages for her to do in them. The major thing seems to be with issues dealing with land use. That one eludes me as to why, but much does.
The art is going well as fish gain bright cheerful coats of paint and emerge into happy looking creatures that will soon be ready for their new homes. I have been enjoying the work on them and have managed to complete 30 or so of them. I have the panels ready to gesso and then once dry have ideas for new work. It will be good to start them soon and I have missed the pleasure of developing new images. The space where I paint is beginning to feel comfortable. I am going to work with medium sized panels till I get a feel for how large of works can be accommodated in the room. I had to change my easels due to their size and work off a smaller one. Not sure putting a hole in the celling would do any thing to help.
Yesterday the doe that grazes on the plants in the yard was right outside the window and it was enjoyable to watch her eat the grass. A cat also finds the yard a good place and was exploring for something of interest. The trees in the sun yesterday raked the light through their limbs and scratches of sunlight made the greens so vivid. We are still hours away from sunrise with rain falling hard. It seems like yesterdays brilliance was a long time ago and yet the fire and beautiful plants in the room make the day most pleasing.
Hope you are finding your day pleasing and cheered by thoughts and sights. That you will find hours that you cannot sleep are filled with good memories and happy plans for the future. That the sound of rain is music to dance to and you will enjoy the verdant earth that springs forth from it. That you have those you cherish close by your heart. That you will see the goodness that fills your life and enjoy it.
