Day Has Come
September 14, 2016
Dayhasappeared in allof its glory as the last of night vanishes from sight. Orange glowing fish dance under the spotlight of morning and birds forage under leaves looking for grubs and bugs. Sounds from passing cars are heard through the open windows. Mother carries on a conversation with the wall and pauses to drink some coffee. The bumpy night has been replaced with a calm and now things begin in earnest as we live out the day. Mother has no memory of the day at church and baptism that she witnessed in the ocean yesterday. For her there is nothing else but vague memories of family long passed and what she sees now. It seems more each day she retreats toward a place that I can’t reach. Skills have been lost and the few that remain are growing less sharp and defined.
The paint area is full of paintings waiting for the coat of varnish to be applied. It is gratifying to see the finished works ready to launch forth to wherever it is they will go. New works are waiting for a coat of paint and the seascape is about done as is the orange abstract. I have been taking drives into the hills and am working on a three panel piece where the sky is both sky and reflection. The surface of the work will glow and dance in a way that enhances the work. I am doing sketches of more seascapes and one of a tree looking up from underneath the tree. The change of perspective will be handsome if it comes off. I am becoming more interested in creating works that challenge the viewer to define what they are seeing. To re-evaluate the idea of interpretation. To form a visual mirror of the changes in culture and life that I see around me. If nothing else it is keeping me occupied.
Hope you are finding things that keep you thinking and growing. That with this season of falling leaves and temperatures you are finding a clear understanding of things around you and a clear appreciation of those you meet. That the days are filled with things you find exciting and share with others. That you are at peace with who you are and except others for who they are.
