Sunshinefloodsthegardenandhillside and chases the last of the fog away. The heat is warming the house from the skylights and soon windows will have to be opened. Mother has been watching the proceedings from her chair with coffee at her side. I can tell she is getting impatient for her morning ride. Meantime, a cat stalks through the yard and lingers at the fish pond for a drink and to stare at the fish swimming out of reach. Leaves are floating down in the gentle breeze from the alder trees. The lack of rain has caused an early dumping of leaves and now we see more open places in the trees. The hills have golden edges where maples and birches change into fall clothes. The blackberries are still sweet and luscious and provide a welcome taste treat in these last days of summer. Well, it looks like we cannot put off the ride any longer so I will finish this when we get back.
Yesterday, when we got back, was filled with life and it seemed all time had just vanished. The dark spell of night is still with us today as I wait for Mother to wake up again and start the day. We have been up several times in the night as she was sure she needed to go some place that she was supposed to go but she did not know where that was. Each time she was relieved to get back to bed only to wake up a while later. Now she can sleep and I am wide awake. There is some humor in that someplace.
I have been enjoying the art greatly the last week, as paintings are finished and the end results are very pleasing. I started turning the paintings around from their time facing the wall and doing some minor changes on them. It seems so much easier to see where changes are needed after not seeing them for a while. I am always amazed how just a few changes of color and pattern transform the piece into a more articulate work. The seascape is doing very well as clouds march across the sky while waves run to the beach then disappear into the sand. The golden light from the sunset gilds the ocean and rocks. Oranges glow with the heat of hue as the abstract works it way out. Dark shadows hide behind bright leaves and blossoms. I turned the nocturne to the wall this week and will wait to see if it is finished. It is very different for me, much softer and subtle than my usual art. New works are getting their first clothes of paint and the adventure of where they will take me begins.
Hope you are finding a sense of adventure in your life. That you will go beyond the known toward the new and find great delight in that. That you will not try to create the past again but let it go and see what else there is to find. That you will not fear change but realize it is life and we are all changing. That you will share what you find so others will have the courage to allow change without fear.
