Blobs of Sunlight
August 1, 2016
Largeblobs of sunlightcling to the trees as pools of luminous yellow collect in the garden and dapple the bushes. Morning has come in on the wings of a glorious sunny day. The breeze dances with the branches of evergreens and shimmers the leaves of the Japanese maples. The lily pads in the pond move as orange gold fish dart under the water. Sounds of slumber come from Mother’s bedroom as she recovers from a night of many ups and downs and now has finally found peace. When I checked on her during the night she was ready to go some place and this morning covers were in disarray and showed a very restless night now replaced with a deep sleep. Her days are now filled with more changes of pattern and she spends more time in worlds of her imagination. Still, the car rides seem to anchor her to the real world more than almost anything else. She seems most aware in the front seat of the car as we drive than at almost any other time. We now spend a few hours each day traveling around the town, beaches and hills. We watch the seasons begin to change as leaves let go of their homes and drift in the wind toward some new place. Tinges of gold dust the tops of hills and even green trees lose their hold and rain down on the driveway.
Breakfast is over and Mother is chatting joyfully with the celling. Phrases of how nice you look and how pretty your face is dot the conversation. Now and again a sip of coffee is taken and then back to the discourse. Her face is full of smiles and so, wherever she is, she seems happy to be there.
Paintings make their march toward completion as the days pass. The 4’ X 4’ has returned facing the wall after some additions and so has the figure in the pond. Both have taken on a feeling of completion and now I’ll wait to see after a few weeks if they are done or not. The abstract work of oranges makes progress with leaves and flowers adding to the pattern. The seascape has reached the point where I must decide how to treat the sky to color the water and dark headlands. The 3’ X 3’ pond is a delight to see. The rainbow pastel colors play off the dark water and rocks like clouds floating and hovering. The other large rocky pond has paused as I try to determine which direction to go. I want to explore the depth of the pond into the dark mystery of what is below what we can see. I would like to start another large work. I have work about ready for the shows coming up so I think I have time to finish a new work. The time I have is always changing. Days that look free change quickly as Mothers needs change. Yet there always are a few moments to brush on some paint or change a line as the day passes.
Hope you are finding the time to create and build beauty into your life. That you are making the most of time to both enjoy what you see and what you do. That you can make beauty out of those things that are not beautiful and those new things uplift you and others. That you are not bound but freed by your heart and soar to new vantage points where you can see things that feed your soul and mind. That you will share with others what you find and help them see.
