A Mohair Fog
July 12, 2016
The thickmohair-likefog has leftand in its place sun warms the land and decorates the trees with hot greens and deep midnight shadows. Birds crowd the sky as a hummingbird drinks at a blood red flower and fish glide beneath the emerald lily pads. A slow morning start for us as Mother slept soundly and did not get up till late for her. While she slumbered I was able to do some chores and ready things for the day. Now music dances around the room and the sounds of clothes drying add a strange beat to the new day. Mother naps off and on and sips coffee. More and more she spends time in the world between awake and sleep. Sometimes she enters that land while eating or doing other tasks. It is as though a curtain drops and she vanishes behind it and is not part of the waking. I try to have things ready so I can encourage her to get to a safe comfortable place where she can rest until she is once more aware of things around her. Even in the car she seems less likely to look to the sides and keeps her eyes on the road in front of her. Maybe she is having problems with my driving but more I think she just doesn’t notice.
Paintings are a bright spot of late as they seem to come together and explode with energy. The large pond is teeming with life and shapes zip in the waters as light swirls on the surface. So far the work has held together even with so much going on. The seascape reflects the sun gilding its surface and the waves’ serpentine motions form a rhythm across the vast ocean. The abstract work is joyous. It is based on oranges, the fruit, and plays with darks and lights in a sort of hide and seek way. Images appear then vanish hiding in plain sight. Two large pond works have rocks scattered on them in paint and wait for the next layers to apply themselves. I am trying to push some work to be ready for shows and the galleries. It seems like due dates sneak up quietly and so it is best to be prepared.
Hope you are prepared for the days ahead and have plans for good things both to do and enjoy. That you will treasure the now and grow toward the future with shining hope. That your days are full of good things that you are sharing with others. That you find the world a good place to be and your part of it a special place of peace and hope, for you and others.
