Marching Up the Hill
June 7, 2016
Foxgloveswave magentaflags as they march up the hillside toward the towering trees. The overcast skies mute the colors somewhat and soften the landscape. Verdant hues cover everything while birds dart back and forth catching breakfast both on the ground and in the air. The fish pond is decorated with the stark white bloom of the water lily as orange flashes of color glide below the surface. The heat of summer-like days has diminished the last few days as the heat inland pulls the wet coastal air inland and blankets us with cool grey. Mother is doing better today and each day since she fell last week. She slipped in the bathroom and hurt her wrist making it painful to do almost anything. She needs help getting up and using the restroom as well as eating and everything else. The last few days she has started using her hand again and that is so good to see. She is sleeping more and that may be helping the healing process. She is sitting, drinking her coffee in sips and then closing her eyes to drift off to some place or starts talking to the wall and the faces she sees around her. She likes me to help her eat more often now and I hope that is only temporary as each function she losses control over seems in short time to leave her completely. The rides seem to be the best medicine for her. She seems to relax more and be at peace during and after the ventures out to see what is going on in the world around us.
The art is going very well and I am happy as the 4 X 4 painting changes, revealing more and more. The colors dance and swirl and blend across the surface, both playful and elegant. Patterns within patterns help create a surface that opens windows to the depths below. Rocks and shadows react with each other to form highways that lead throughout the work. The flowering trees are coming back to life. They went through a major change and now after restructuring seem to be once more moving in a gentle breeze. I am working on sketches for a new work but so far it seems too hidden in my mind to form onto the panels.
Hope you are being blessed with beauty of the unknown revealing itself to you. That days are changing and you will enjoy the changes and not resent the loss of what was. That you can see bright clear wonderful things around you and the people who are just as bright and wonderful as well.
