Surprise of Sun
April 5, 2016
The surprise of sun shining through the windows and rain coming down greets the new day. Warmth radiates from the fireplace as cherry reds of burning wood provide a spectral show for Mother. She sits visiting with the chairs, smiling and commenting on their smiling faces, her coffee beside her at the ready for a sip. She had a good night with only a couple wake ups and was glad to get back to bed. She always has a sense of urgency when she awakes that she must meet people or get home and is relieved when she is told all has been taken care of. Her general happiness is a blessing. She enjoys her days even if she has no idea where she is or why. The flowers and blooms continue to multiply in the garden and all around and she seems to find great delight in the sights and fragrances, as I do as well. Food is the only problem for her these days as I try to make her soups free of any solids and to keep everything else as soft as possible. I am having to explain and watch her more so that she understands how to swallow her food and pills.
The art is more enjoyable each day as the works move closer to completion. Swaths of blooms intersecting dark branches while blue sky and clouds form a backdrop to the dazzling array of pinks, reds and lavenders. Fragments of sky lie on the surface of the pond as the figure puzzles through the images in search of meaning and understanding. Lily pads and shoots of green reeds pierce the surface of the pond as koi dance below the tranquil surface. Shadows create a misshapen map of the whole, while lily pads hover on the surface like ships at rest. Moonlight on another work bangs into clouds and sea as dark clouds jostle in the deep blue sky. Each of the paintings is developing a sense of their own personality; like people choosing tattoos to decorate themselves with their own messages of who and what they are. Going beyond simple beauty to define and their own values and meanings. Using the canvas of their own body to make indelible decisions of the statements that they feel at the moment.
Hope you are finding in the moments of life the images that build and nurture you and help enrich others. That you are choosing wisely what you want to carry with you through life and will bring you pleasant remembrances of when you acquired them. That you will practice doing good and uplifting others. That you will be a stepping stone and not a stumbling block to those who are searching for help.
