Pale Light Sneaks
January 4, 2016
The morning is sneaking it’s way into the treesand pale lightpoolsin thesky. The fire blazes brightly as fire licks the wood with tongues of yellow and orange to the sound of crackling. The house is quiet as Mother has yet to wake. Rare for her to sleep long in the morning but of late she seems sleeping more but at odd times. The ice on the fish pond has melted and the glowing metallic forms of the fish can be seen. They hide in the depths of their watery home, seemingly paying no attention to the changes of weather. There are four of them keeping company with the lilies that grow suspended in the water. Even when the ice covered the surface they could be seen swimming underneath the glass like plate that covered them.
Noise from Mother’s bedroom lets me know she is awake, so I will stop for now and begin the daily routine of helping her prepare for her day and then breakfast, with the all important coffee.
Mother sits warming her hands next to the fire enjoying its heat as she sips coffee and gazes out the windows. She seems better now but still slips back into sleep only to awaken and talk for a few minutes before she repeats the cycle once again. The classical music provides a pleasant background of sound to cheer.
The new studio space in the living room is done and all that remains is getting the brushes in place and, if all goes right, I will start painting this afternoon. I have a stack of fish that I need to complete so they can go out and a 3’ X 4’ painting that does not have much more to do on it. I am getting the panels ready to start new works and organizing the space for the work to dry after I paint it. I will hold off the large work I am planning till I see how to manage the space. The new work will be over 7’ tall and continues the navigator series that has been floating in my thoughts for the last few months. I may try a multi panel piece exploring the changes of thought as the form navigates different directions and ideas. It is good to be back to making art after the months of inactivity.
Hope you are awaking to find new directions to travel and new places to investigate. That you find your heart swelling with joy and peace as you visit new venues. That you have others to share what you find with. That the days fill themselves with goodness, love and friendship.
