Morning lightsoftly filters through the trees and falls on thepersimmon tree outside of Mother’s bedroom. Leaves glow with the red orange hue of autumn while irregular orbs of fruit hang clutching the branches, sucking whatever nutrients are left. After years of waiting, the tree is at last full of its fruit as the flags of summer surrender to the cold ground. Planted nearly 18 years ago and as we ready to move, the tree brings forth a harvest so prized by Mother and Dad. Perhaps it is a fitting good bye. Mother is unfazed by the display of splendor and promise of sweet fruit. She has forgotten her fondness for the fall bounty. So she sits dozing off and on, sipping some coffee or just looking out the windows waiting for something to connect with her mind and lift her spirits. Soon, we will be off for her to attend a Bible study with the ladies of the church and visit people who remember her even if she does not remember them. Their act of love is appreciated by her as they help her and see that her coffee cup remains full and appreciated by me as well. Love made real by actions warms the heart and lifts the weight of the day from both of us.
It seems fish are filling each nook and cranny on the patio and still more are piled up in my old bedroom that I use to paint in now. Some are sparkling in bright colors and fun pattens, others are trying to make up their minds as to what they shall look like. The playfulness of the forms is a relaxed statement of joy. Laughter is a gift they bring and they exist only to place a smile on the face and make the heart lighter. That is enough of a message to share, that life can be happy and fun and not forget that when troubles come or days are dark or when houses take forever to close. I have been getting some boards ready for some new work. I keep telling myself to wait till the move is over and the routine of the new place is established but my heart keeps telling me to start exploring what my mind is revealing. Even with the few hours of time for painting that I have now, it changes my mood and my spirits soar when I see images and hues dance on the surface of the panels. It feels like I am free to go to places that only my mind can find, that are founts of energy and excitement .
Hope you are able to find the energy and excitement of life in all that you are doing. That you won’t forget to feed your soul no matter how little time you think you have to do that. That you will see the beauty even in the darkness and fog as you do in the sunlight and summer days. That you will show kindness to those you meet and love. That your days will not be filled with false pretense but with honest feelings of who you are. That you won’t keep people from showing love to you and will accept it with humbleness. That you will smile much more than you frown.
