Clear and Warm
October 26, 2015
After abrief hiding in the fog the day is clear and warmas heralded by the morning stars hovering above the horizon as the night died and bled into the new day. Mother has changed positions twice to avoid the fiery eye moving through the heavens and now, coffee cup gripped in her hand, she watches the world emerge from the shadowland to the illuminated familiar landscape. She seems somewhat restless this morning and when queried is unable to explain why. The sound of the washing machine is fighting with the radio to be heard and the week seems to be falling into its normal rhythm. Mother woke only a few times in the night and then accepted the fact of darkness and went back to bed. More and more she lets go of concepts, ideas and knowledge and drifts more through the day. Her sweetness lingers and she is a good companion with ready smile even when she has no idea of what is going on. Her need for being close continues to grow and she now must have more contact than before. Sound is more enjoyable. The common voice of everyday activity seems welcome to her and provides her with a sense of well being and she comments often on them. The house is still in pause. The activity of packing has been slowed and we wait for the close to make the transition to our new residence.
During this lull, things are still going on in the art. Fish after fish changes color and pattern as they swim toward completion. They are fast to paint but slow to dry as our days cool more. Each one has a character that is both unique and common. It is a balance between the two that gives me great delight to pursue. More like sketches, they evolve quickly and because of their shape they have a comic edge that softens the impact of the image. The larger paintings are still with their faces to the wall as they dry and wait for judgment to determine if they are finished or not. Blank panels call out for me to start on them and ideas are forming and so far I have not started them for fear that the move will interfere with the process and ideas.
Meanwhile, life goes on as each day change comes to the garden and beyond. Geese still form V’s as they make their way south and ducks speed across the sky. Salmon fishing is filling the bay with small boats and the town is full of stories of the exploits of each fisher person.
I hope you are finding the rhythm of the days is pleasant for you and the change brings both joy and peace. That you are gaining a perspective that gives understanding of life. That you sense the good and bad and the balance between them does not upset you. That the others traveling with you will be comforted by your love and concern. That you will not let the light of the lamp of hope to go out but blaze out for you and others.
