Agreycanopyhovers over the bay making a mellowsoftness of the light that seeps through from the beginning of the morning. Temperatures continue to stay warm even as the days of fall pass. In the past, the rains would have begun their deluges making pools in every low spot but not so far this year. Leaves fall but more from a lack of water than cold. Even the trip we did yesterday to Eugene to see Mother’s arthritis specialist was a journey through forests that were parched and the moss, usually so green, looked lack luster and grey. The worry of fires seems at the back of everyone’s mind as the clouds refuse to unburden their loads on the land. Mother seems to have made a fast recovery from the trip yesterday and sits drinking her morning coffee and staring at things she alone can see. She is waiting for her daily morning ride and keeps looking my way to see what is holding it up. The waking and wanting to get out last night are unknown to her and today she is lost in her thoughts. The packing and planning for our move continue and we try to visit and drive by our new house often as a way of getting her used to the new area.
Art is going well and several of the paintings are about done. Each has developed its own character and yet is bound to the others like children in a family. The figure work has the most forceful personality and makes me smile each time I see it. The trees in snow have a stillness that seems to make sound go away and the viewer is left an icy site of winter. The lily pad piece feels to me like a pond so formal and stylized that you are held away from the pads but drawn to the water and the fish swimming in it. The moon rise and trees is powerful as the image of the moon bursts from the bond of trees toward the heavens filled with clouds and stars. All the works are at the stage where the last few changes are being made but the nature of the art is fixed. New works are in my mind but for now they will stay there till after the move.
Hope you are finding peace in the parts of your life that have need of resolution and joy as you look at your life and find that you like who you are. That even if the sun is not shining you can remember it on your face and revisit it in your mind. That you are content in the days of your life.
