A warmgrey flannelblanket of fogdrapesoverthe garden and flaps gently in the wind. The day is starting soft in light and feel as though it were too hard to get up, nestled in its early morning bed. We have been up for a while and Mother searches out her window for what the day will bring, coffee cup at the ready. The warmth is such a surprise. Am used to the cold edge of the wind as the coast begins autumn and the days are still warm. The sun yesterday carried heat and rains have not fallen much in the last few weeks. Maybe summer is refusing to yield even as the days grow shorter. Mother slept most of the night but still could not stay at rest the whole night. So early to rise and start a new day in the dark blackness of night. She laughs at her lack of understanding as she tries to cover what she does not understand, why she acts as she does. Laugher seems the best medicine for this time of shadows and blurry thinking. The wind has raised the corner of the blanket and the far side of the bay comes into view. A few small boats ready to fish head out into the bay as the lure of salmon draws the anglers toward favorite fishing holes. Already there are signs of fresh salmon and tuna at the docks and people are talking about canning and smoking the bounty for the winter to come. The days have been filled with packing and putting things in place, cleaning and preparing. Fall always seems to be the beginning of the year and in some ways more festive than those in December. Maybe a holdover from the days when the school year began and the order of life changed so abruptly.
The art seems brighter this week as more paint joins the canvas and the body of the work becomes more pronounced. The map figure piece evolves. It is more exciting and intriguing and holds me each time I see it. The frigid cold of the trees in winter with their mantles of snow have begun to dance more like the swirls of snowflakes that topple from trees and dance toward the forest floor. Yesterday a golden light began to edge the snow giving a hint of warmer days. It is such a joy to change a feel by just adding a bit of warm hue. The pond of the golden lily pads has begun a journey to achieving a snapshot feel of a frozen moment as fish are caught in the act of swimming toward some far goal over stones of blue, purple and brown. The trees with the rise of the full moon are coming close to completion as lights begin to spread through the dark trees from the orb that rises below them. It is a study in the way cool and warm dance and mingle effortlessly.
The sounds of the morning are beginning to grow louder as the day advances and soon it will be time for us to drive around and see the world from other vantages than through these windows.
Hope you will enjoy the changes of the days and the wind will blow you fresh ideas that feed your hope and encourage you. That you will not settle for only one way of looking at things but see what is all around you. That your day will be filled helping others to meet their needs and uplifting them as best you can. That you will enjoy here, where you are and not let what you think destroy or keep you from enjoying what you have now. That you will find the peace you search for.
