Hotsunheatsthelivingroom as Mother retreats to her shadewith her coffee cup. The warm summer breath wanders from the open windows finding places to curl around furniture settling in for a long stay. The cool fogs and misty mornings of the past are forgotten as the orb in the sky reigns and frees the humidity to blanket the land. Gone are the crisp nights and day breaks that held sway for so long. Colors in the yard blaze in the glow of the bright light and gulp water trying to hold out against the onslaught of merciless heat. For us, these day are hot but compared to the land inland they are cool. Our narrow range of temperature makes us unprepared for the march of summer that marches over the coast range and now floods the coast. Boats of all sizes race out of the harbor as the news of great schools of fish have been sighted. The roads and restaurants are full as tourists try to cool off from the pounding scorching heat in the valleys to the east. Mother seems unfazed by all that is going on. Last night she slept better and is feeing good this morning. The warmth seems to make her arthritis less bothersome.
The new painting continues to grow in the studio as the ideas jell and time permits. Garnet, amethyst, ruby, sapphire and other gem like hues stud the canvas as images burst and climb to hold their place in the composition. More or less defined, the forms begin to dance with each other creating new patterns and lead the eye on new journeys to unexplored worlds. It is the period of unrestrained joy as energy flows and the glory of the paint works its magic to make the unseen seen. There seems to be a kindred spirit with the luminous landscape as though the two try to see who can reveal the most beauty. I am afraid that the out doors will win and yet the painting will be what it was meant to be. Experimentation on some new works is proving rewarding as they develop. I like the songs of birds that fill the house this morning through open door and windows, the new works’ song fills my heart. What a joy to see beauty both in and out of the studio.
Hope you are finding that which fills the hunger for beauty. That you will not give up doing what your heart tells you to do. That each day you will find the sweet refreshment of all that is around you. That you will not fear the truth of your life but will rejoice in it and be content with all that you are and have. That you will not set your sights on what you do not have but rather what you do and share that with others.
