Storm of Light
July 21, 2015
The blazing thermal blast of summersurges through the windows andcreatespools ofluminous golddissected by shadows of all that stands in the way of its march. Mother sits huddled in her chair escaping the brunt of the morning juggernaut content to have her hands in the dry pools of light as she watches the unfolding of a new day. She listens to classical music and resents the people speaking too fast and she complains of her lack of comprehension. Words lose their magic to explain and convey ideas as the days pass and she relies on single words to communicate more and more. Gone are words like cars, planes, boats and in their place words that give no information or description of the object. Have gone to taking drives with her twice a day now. That seems to sooth her and she seems to relax more in the afternoons. Her world has become one of observation rather than one of experience. She seems happy to watch from the seat of a car more than anything else. She no longer wants to get out unless she is at church or at the doctor’s. Stores and groups of people are just too stressful on her. So we talk and sing and ride around the area as she lives her vicarious life through what her eyes show her.
The new painting is at the fresh and beautiful stage. The first coats of paint have dried and more detail has added itself to the surface. Already, the war between cool and warm and light and dark is playing out and the integration has begun. Water reflecting the light in a non present sky forms the backdrop to the fiery hot form that stands in the center. Like the pictures of lava flowing into the sea the contrast fuels thought and sets a tension in the work. Am fascinated by the duality of the composition. Where there should be only war there is a harmony that balances everything. It is a joy to explore and to spend time in the language of color and form. It refreshes me and helps me keep myself grounded in the rest of life experiences. Am always finding out more about myself and what I really think as the surface of the work becomes a mirror of my inner self. New paintings are dancing in my mind and I am being drawn into starting new works. That is always a sign that I am in a good place in my skin.
Hope you are in a good place too and that you feel the joy of being who you are. That you have not let your feelings imprison you in a place of despair. That the sun is shining and you are rejoicing in life and hope. That you have found others to join with and journey on to where you need to be. That each day finds you in awe of being alive and seeing beauty in all of its shapes and forms.
