Head in the Clouds
July 14, 2015
I feel like the cloudy sky that fills the windows and hovers over the bay. Alarms went off several times last night and before 5 AM Mother could not stay in bed any longer and our day began in earnest. Her mind told her she had to get up had to leave. She has no place in mind other than to be with her parents and siblings. Their deaths and the years since have no meaning for her and so she waits to be taken home where she has to help the family do things. Now, with coffee in hand, she sits entertained by the trees and plants dancing in the breeze as geese form their morning squadrons on the way to find food. Even with the clouds it is warm and the doors and windows are open letting in the fresh smells of summer. Yesterday we watched as children dared waves to catch them on the warm sandy beach. Parents huddled on the sand keeping an eye on the small ones and listening as the small ones yelled out their joy for being alive. Mother smiles and watches carefully as though she must guard their safety. Somewhere in the corridors of her thoughts she remembers something but not the whole of it. She talks of how parents and children will be tired on their way home and the children will have to be carried into the house. The sounds of the roadway below us begin to compete with the songs of birds and Mother concentrates to discern their meaning.
The new large painting continues to evolve. A slice of yellow splits the figure like a bolt of lighting but from within. Glowing oranges, burning hot reds play off the cobalt and verdant background while water reflects the hidden sky. Mystery seems to cover the form as hues collide with each other in luminous explosions ripping through in an uncontrolled manner. Like lava that shoots from the volcano and then falls back into the caldron’s fiery sea the colors seem more intent on building islands than destroying them. Have enjoyed walking in areas where the lava has cooled and formed landscapes of hard rolling surfaces and caves that lead into the earth. It is somewhat like walking into the arteries of a great creature that the blood has drained away but the path it took is still there. The water like molten stone so fluid and malleable changes to rigid skin covering all that was before it. In what I am exploring the core continues to move and be liquid while patches of cool or dried or scar tissue cling to the surface like the gondolas on a roller coaster. Sometimes leaving sometimes staying the forms help define the shape in part but not in whole due to its constant metamorphic change. The other paintings continue to resolve themselves and have begun to blaze with their own unique compositions and personalties.
I hope you will find a place to watch and observe the changes in your life and will be pleased as they are revealed to you. That, like objects floating on a pond, things that you don’t want can be removed with conscious action. That you do not have to stay as you are. That what you love should be enhanced and encouraged. That you will be able to hear your heart and be guided by love.
