The poinsettias on the table blaze blood red fire on the tops of tables while huge haystacks of flowers glow in the shafts of morning sun. Hues burst forth and the garden is a riot of rich spring color offset by a range of greens that simmer like the hearts of emeralds. There are intense vibrations that blend into each other while birds dart, insects buzz and wispy clouds shuffle by in a cobalt sky. Mother has given up trying to hide from the sun and drinks her coffee while keeping her hands in the warm pools of light that flood her table. Sometimes with eyes closed other times staring into the distance. Her night was fitful and we rose early today and were treated to a sunrise of pinks, golds and a few pin pricks of stars. We watched as boats left their snug berths and made their way toward the still dark ocean in search of a bonanza of riches from deep places of the sea. Bobbing as they dance lightly as they cross the bar toward the world without land.
Have been working on the house and garden to ready them for the warm time of the year. Am always surprised by all that needs to be done and would rather paint but know once it is done I can spend more time working on the paintings. Have been developing in my mind my next large work. Will explore the pond and will add a second figure. Removing the isolation of the single to include the beginning of community. Hope to explore how others influence, change and create new awareness. The complexity of introducing another logic/set of ideas/stimulus is both daunting and exciting. Have also more work to do on a series of pond and fish paintings that are coming along well but have stopped working as directly as I had in the past while the house plays the central spot in my days. The show I am in at the Coos Art Museum, opened Friday. Mother was able to go with me and even if she did not know what was going on liked watching the people. The exhibition covers the Western United States and has work from all over, Hawaii to New Mexico and all the states within. Got an Honorable Mention on one of my pond series and the work in the show was thought provoking and good. Seeing the expression of so many artists surprises and encourages one to push their own art further and achieve more with it.
Trust you are pushing yourself to the best you can do and not giving up because you are not where you want to be yet. Time and effort will reveal what you are seeking to communicate and as with all relationships in life the beauty and depth will become apparent. Don’t give up on your dreams or ideas; let them grow and develop into what they are meant be not what you think or others think they should be. Keep strong in yourself and believe what is in your heart.
Hope you will see all the beauty in your life and rejoice in it.
