A Surge of Illumination
April 16, 2015
Dzzaling brightness slapshes into the living room flooding everything in yellow-white light. Mother has retreated from her chair to sit out of the glory of the sun and drink her coffee while dipping her hands into the puddles of sunlight to warm them. The sheets of rain that attacked the house last night and into the early morning have gone for a while butstill dark clouds huddle in the corners of the sky. Promises from the weather people of a week of sunny days dance in our minds as we hope they are right in their predictions. We were in Eugene yesterday seeing a specialist for some of Mother’s ailments and drove home with rain dousing the care through spring clothed hills. Mother thought the trip was to take her home to be with her Mother and Father and siblings and could not understand where they were. After a night of restless sleep she seems resigned to the fact that she is here and they are some other place. She always carries an air of waiting for the reunion to a situation that ceased to exist 70 years ago but is fresh for her. We will soon leave for her weekly meeting with the ladies and she will enjoy their visiting and love for the space she remembers then will forget and turn to other things of the past. The surprise of this has faded and now seems to be the usual rhythm of daily life for both of us.
Art is going out the door fast this week. A shipment of fish is off to market and a 4’ X 6’ painting leaves for a show at the later end of the week. Have been sorting through things and trying to get rid of an abundance of things that I don’t need now. It feels good to sort through the busyness of the objects and have more space for the things that are important. New work is going well and I am trying to keep the flow of the work from slowing down. It always helps me keep myself focused as I live.
Hope you will find the peace that comes from shedding what no longer helps but slows you down. That the things you surround yourself don’t become a prison that takes your time and energy. That your life is enhanced by beauty and joy, and each day is bright with love.
